Whether you're taking your very first drawing class, building on existing skills or exploring a new creative medium, you'll find a welcoming place to learn, create and connect at Lost Lane Studio. From structured drawing courses to inspiring Sunday Studio workshops and special creative sessions, there's something for every stage of your creative journey. Classes are limited to six participants, allowing plenty of time for individual guidance and encouragement.

Drawing FUNdamentals 1: Learn to See, Learn to Draw

A gentle introduction to the elements of art

Perfect for complete beginners or anyone wanting to reconnect with their creativity and build strong drawing foundations. Join a small group in a relaxed and supportive environment—no drawing experience needed.

Drawing FUNdamentals 2: Perspective & Structure

Draw with greater depth, accuracy and confidence

A natural next step after Drawing Fundamentals 1, or for anyone wanting to strengthen their drawing skills. Explore practical ways to understand perspective, proportion and structure while working in a relaxed and supportive small group.

What You’ll Learn

  • The basics of linear and aerial perspective

  • How to create distance and depth

  • Ways to observe proportion and symmetry

  • How to understand the underlying structure of objects

  • Drawing both constructed and organic forms with confidence

Figure, Form & Imagination

From observation to imagination: explore the expressive human figure

Relax into a creative approach to drawing the human figure. Beginning with observation, you’ll explore gesture, movement, proportion and form before developing one of your figure studies into a more imaginative and personal composition.

What You'll Learn

  • How to capture gesture, movement and expression

  • Simple approaches to proportion and structure

  • How to build the figure using shape and form

  • Developing more sustained and expressive figure studies

  • Transforming an observational drawing into an imaginative composition.

     

Sessions will draw upon model poses and carefully selected reference imagery. The emphasis is on exploration and individual interpretation—not detailed anatomy or perfect realism.

Painting with Coloured Pencil

See this timeless medium in a whole new light.

Rich, luminous colour, beautiful depth and surprisingly painterly effects make coloured pencils one of the most versatile and rewarding artistic mediums to work with. Artist-quality pencils simply take those possibilities even further.

In this relaxed, hands-on workshop, you'll experience just how expressive coloured pencil can be as you build colour gradually, bring a simple subject to life and discover which techniques best suit your own artistic style.

Colour Made Clear

Take the mystery out of colour mixing and create  with confidence.

Mixing beautiful, vibrant colours doesn't have to be confusing. Through practical demonstrations, hands-on exploration and just enough theory to make it all click, you'll discover a refreshingly simple approach that may change the way you see and use colour.

Understanding colour is more valuable than owning more paint.

Whether you're just starting out or looking to strengthen your understanding, you'll leave with greater confidence and practical knowledge you can apply across any art medium.

​Working in layers can transform the way you approach acrylic painting. Through step-by-step demonstrations and guided practice, you'll learn how expressive underpainting, transparent glazes and carefully built layers create richness and subtle complexity that simply can't be achieved in a single application.

Working from your own reference image or one from a selection provided, you'll develop your artwork one stage at a time, gaining the confidence to loosen up, trust the process and embrace the unexpected as each layer begins to reveal new possibilities.

Life Drawing

Relax, unwind, express

​Life drawing is a powerful way to sharpen your drawing skills—it teaches you to observe and react quickly to what’s in front of you while still allowing room for your unique interpretation of the subject.

You’ll quickly discover that it’s not about the final drawing but about immersing yourself in the creative process, letting music and self-expression lead the way.

Join one of these relaxed sessions, where you can seek gentle guidance on your drawings or simply unwind, enjoying the peaceful atmosphere as you draw at your own pace.

Adults of all skill levels - beginners warmly welcome!

Creative Ageing

Boost brain health and wellbeing and discover your latent creativity

Spark the joy of creative expression with the Creative Ageing classes, designed for people living with early-stage dementia and their carers. These weekly sessions offer a fun, supportive, and non-judgemental space to explore art through multi-sensory and multimedia activities tailored to individual needs.

Activities are thoughtfully designed to accommodate different levels of cognitive and physical abilities*, fostering confidence and self-expression.

As an offshoot of the successful Drawing Memories program I’ve delivered in aged care facilities across NSW, these classes use proven techniques to boost brain health, build new neural pathways, and encourage meaningful social connections.

Music and reminiscing add a special touch to the creative process.

No drawing experience is needed—just bring your curiosity!

 

 

Who is this for?
Older people, and people living at home with dementia (early stage), or 
disability. It is recommended that carers attend/participate in the activities for free.
