Drawing people
...the human body is an analogy of the workings of the universe... da Vinci
I enjoy drawing older people; their faces hint of the underlying layers and fabrics of a textured life
I was once told that truly seeing and understanding the human figure—its form, proportion, and structure—is fundamental to how we interpret the world around us.
Much like Leonardo da Vinci viewed the body as a reflection of the universe, these principles continue to shape the way I approach drawing—whether it’s people, still life, or the built environment.
I’ve been drawn to portraiture since I was 11, when I sketched my grandmother “just for fun.” My eye for detail wasn’t entirely appreciated—I captured every wrinkle.
Drawing people requires a fine balance of observation, sensitivity, and flow. Without it, a portrait can become a record of features rather than a reflection of the person—their presence, their emotion, their essence.
If you’re looking for a special drawing of someone, or an illustration for a project, you’re very welcome to get in touch—I’d love to hear your ideas
